Plot

In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, is thrust into a high-profile job she’s ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future. The producers also convinced the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only location that was unavailable was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador

Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or film production, especially an American one. While it’s accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.

Absolutely top-notch production and acting

Nominated for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024). The writing is clever and interesting, engaging and well-paced.

The character development is quite robust and the actors are not simple caricatures

Time and again, the character seems one-dimensional at first glance, but then the story unfolds and is actually much more complex than first meets the eye. My only complaint is that some of the “romances” that are shoved in; the plot lines are so clumsy and out of place, they are disjointed and distracting.

Someone decided to show a little soap opera and it doesn’t make the result any better

The professional situations that suddenly devolve into “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy” seemingly out of nowhere.
