This is pure madness

My second favorite film from Cannes after Substance; (I haven’t seen "Anora). A musical about drug traffickers and corruption in Mexico??? WTF???"Emilia Perez" is really resourceful. It blends many different genres: drama, comedy, musical, thriller, but it is done very well and entertainingly. It is also extremely original and surprisingly emotional. Here is a character whose journey throughout the film is thrilling and heartbreaking. I will not go into details. This isn’t really a spoiler because it’s revealed within the first 15-20 minutes of the movie, but I wasn’t aware of that and was shocked that this movie went in that direction.

That’s why we advise you not to read the description and go watch it completely blind if you want to have the best possible experience. The best thing about this Emilia Perez; there are definitely performances. In Cannes, she won the best actress award for even 4 performances (Karla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz). Saldana plays the title character and has many intense and effective scenes (especially the musical ones). I’m glad that after all these blockbusters, she finally got a role where she could showcase her acting skills. Gascon plays the title character. It’s kind of a supporting role, but she’s the heart of the film and the whole plot revolves around her. Gomez and Paz were good, but I was surprised they also won the Palme – their performances weren’t as great and memorable as Saldana and Gascon Jacques Audiard’s vision.

This movie is stylish and looks beautiful. I love the cinematography and the score. Not everything works perfectly and there were moments where I wasn’t completely sold, but for the most part I enjoyed it and was surprised by its insanity, ingenuity and originality. I’m not a big fan of musicals, but the musical scenes (of which there aren’t many) in that movie are catchy and very well choreographed. The songs are catchy and memorable (my favorites are about vaginoplasty and the taste of cola)."Emilia Perez" not suitable for everyone. Some people walked out, others said it was one of the worst films of the festival, some loved it (including me). The general public will not like it. The closest movie I’ve seen is Annette.
